Lupine present:

NORTHERN LIGHTS SPECIAL with DIRTY PRETTY THINGS DJ SET featuring CARL BARAT and DIDZ HAMMOND

Friday 11th April 2007
Club Nirvana, Clarence Yard, Wigan
Doors 9.00pm
Tickets £5 advance from Club Nirvana (no booking fee) and www.ticketline.co.uk or 0161 832 1111

Wigan is set to kick off the Easter holidays in style when Carl Barât heads to Club Nirvana for a very special guest DJ appearance.

Formerly co-frontman of The Libertines with Pete Doherty, Barât is now frontman and lead guitarist of the Dirty Pretty Things which he formed after the Libertines implosion.

The Libertines shot to fame on the release of their first album, Up The Bracket in 2002, which was greeted with widespread critical acclaim. The band's rapid fame was due, in part, to their volatile stage performances, which were characterised by intense bouts of mic-sharing and fighting between Barât and Doherty. This paralleled their relationship, which had progressed to verging on dysfunctional and abusive, with Barât and Doherty being equally competitive and possessive with each other.

Relationships soon became strained and Doherty was sent to jail in 2003 for burgling Barât’s flat. A reconciliation was made on Doherty’s release and he was welcomed back into the band. They went to record their second and ultimately final self titled album as more in band fights and Doherty’s drug addiction drove the band apart one last time in late 2004.

Later in 2005, Barât formed Dirty Pretty Things with former Libertines Gary Powell and Anthony Rossomando and Cooper Temple Clause bassist Didz Hammond. Their debut album, Waterloo to Nowhere was released in May 2006 and reached number 3 in the charts. The band went on a successfull worldwide tour before heading into the studio to record their second album, of which will be released later this year.

Barât is well known for his DJ sets across London including his own club night, Bright Young Things. Didz Hammond will also be joining him on the night.

Carl is now the third Libertine to come to Wigan. Pete Doherty famously played one of the first ever Babyshambles gigs in the town back in early 2004 and Lupine followed it up by taking them to play their first ever gig in Manchester in the humble surroundings of Jabez Clegg! John Hassall meanwhile regularly plays the town with his new band Yeti.

Tickets are available now from Club Nirvana and the usual ticket outlets. Doors open at the earlier time of 9pm. Prior to Barâts DJ set there will be various bands playing on both the main stage and in Kings Electric with the club once more being open on all 3 floors with DJ Joey Ellis making a return to the decks on the top floor.

We are sorry to announce that Carl and Didz will no longer be djing Northern Lights next week.
The band have issued the following statement:

"We are very sorry to confirm that Carl and Didz's DJ set at the Northern Lights night at Club Nirvana in Wigan on 11th April has had to be cancelled as the boys are still in the studio putting the finishing touches on the 2nd album. The boys apologise to all of you who were planning to attend and hope that they will be able to reschedule at a later date" See http://www. dirtyprettythingsband. com/ for more details.

The night will carry on with the same bands and Northern Lights DJs at the usual price of £3. Anyone who has bought tickets can claim a refund at point of purchase. We will hopefully be able to reschedule the date soon.

Apologies again for this but it was totally out of our control.
