Ozric tentacles at the Academy 3 manchesterI was really looking forward to this one as I havent seen the ozrics for a while, 12quid a ticket not bad at all considering all ticket prices seem to have gone up everywere, also support from Darren poyzer, so all seems dandy hmm.
we arrived at the venue at 8.00 to find that the tickets had suddenly gone up to 15 quid , but what the heck. We got to the auditourium as Darren and mr violin were on stage nearing the end of there set they seemed to be on good form, the songs were good and the violin work was excellent and the crowd seemed to enjoy it too.
The stage was blacked out and filled with smoke a single green spotlight hit the stage, Ed walks on followed by Brandi his wife and old drummer Merv but wait a minute no drum kit, fuck it it'll still be good, I tried to convince myself.
After about an hour of what seemed like the same loop and and less than 2minutes in total of bass playing, I like many others at the gig got a bit pissed off and felt cheated as the ozric tentacles name shouldnt have been used. Many people there had been watching the ozrics since they first started and said it was the worst performance they had ever seen, it felt as if Ed was just desperate to cling on to the ozrics name but with no solid line up and uninspiring tunes the future looks bleak
I hope they sort themselves out soon cause they are an amazing live band.

Yeah this has been coming for ages hasn't it. The new album is absolute tosh and I think they've had money problems for ages. Seein as they'll be playing the citadel in the new year we'll all see for ourselves...
So was it like a techno based thing with like little live interaction? What was merv doin?

So is Steve Hillage not playing with them anymore either? I seem to remember Buz saying they were pretty dissapointing on the Spirals In Hypserspace tour the other year.
Darren Poyzer seems like an odd choice of support act

I havent heard the new album and id never heard of most of the tracks they played at the gig, im guessing that they must have played a lot of material from there new album.
Merv was controlling the drum machine and he played on a djembi drum sometimes. there was no Steve hillage there.
