Another week and another round of bands looking to impress/piss off/promote in Wigan.

The Dead Shores
They've been one of the best bands playing in Wigan over the last few years. Great witty lyrics about everyday life, bursts of guitar that has real punks head banging to and smart modish bass lines. While they have always been seen as a lad's band, they have enough quality to appeal to anyone and in the past have supported The Fall, Babyshambles, The Slits and The Longcut. Taking influences from Julian Cope, Half Man Half Biscuit, Love and the Violent Femmes, they come up with their own eccentric English form of indie punk.

Orphan Boy
Orphan Boy manage to sound like louts but do it with a unique charm similar to that of The Clash; slashing and careering guitars, strong percussion and that slightly leering vocal, London tainted and aggressive in places. They are charged with an energy that instils an urge to move yourself to the music. They are passionate young men with a strong idea about who they are and what they are doing; this makes good for the punters with an enjoyably robust, on-edge performance at live shows. With plays on Radio BBC6 and a single and album out soon, they are one not to miss.

The Sly Digs
A new band from Warrington and they have that skiffle indie rock thing going on. It's all a lot of fun with echoes of the Libertines and they are the kind of band who will crash and burn or build up a solid local fanbase and go onto better things. It's up to them really, how far they go; we'll be along for the ride anyhow.
