Filthy Romance
With their five line-up changes this year alone Filthy Romance are here again with new member, Dave Rybka, on guitar. They carry on with their Lynch inspired jazz beat blues-rock, playing new songs and continuing to build up, deconstruct then blow away old songs. They're like a beefed up blues version of Sigor Ros but with my being in the band it's not right me writing this so here's two reviews from the past year:
'Imagine David Lynch fronting Sigur Ros, while Keith Richards provides 'Exile On Main Street' riffs and Tim Burton plays glockenspiel. Imagine!'
(NME May 2006)
'Formed in Wigan, Filthy Romance's rhythm section brings the early Rolling Stones sound back to life. Upon this the band processes melodies close to Nick Cave's songs. With a big band craze and a fantasy universe building almost mystic bridges between Radiohead and Danny Elfman. Filthy Romance's songs sound original covering a wide spectre of styles and moods. Every single track is a specific brick for the unconventional building the bands songbook is going to become.'
(French Magazine Newcomer 2006)

Rainbow Trout
A three piece from Manchester with vocals that recall Jeff Buckley and almost Dave Gilmour. An interesting band that have a lot of musicianship going on and sound like a serious band. Taking influences from Cream, Hendrix, At The Drive-In and Led Zepp, they have learnt the cannon of spaced blues-rock and the dynamics of creating a song around more than a riff or two. In words, they are worth seeing tonight to hear their roughed up funk rhythms and how they break up a song to fit in a squawk of a solo that has Jimi wiping the spew from his mouth in appreciation.

Emma Stockton & John Fairhurst
The twanging blues guitar of John Fairhurst paired with the voice of Emma Stockton is something exciting to look forward to. John, with his wide range of influences is the perfect sounding board for someone like Emma, whose vocal has often in the past sounded at its best when singing the blues. They are two high quality musicians on the same journey of self discovery through the power of music. Look out also for their Indian ragga music piece; a sunny taste of the East in the run-up to the Christmas season of the West.
