Money & The Masses
We've all heard the Strokes comparisons, mainly through the vocal technique and immediate riffage. But the singer does has a voice of his own, with a strong Wigan lilt that wraps around a lyric nicely, not unlike Alex Turner and his way with a word and melody. What will strike you about the Masses is the immediacy of some of their songs. They launch into them and they seem recognisable on a first listen; catchy, fun and witty in places when they sing of other loves (and sinister prime ministers.)
And they're still young 'uns yet.

Funky Justice
Now here is a band to check out. With almost every group, chuck in a bit of brass and they improve the band, the sound, just see what even the most basic of saxophone can do for a band like The Zutons. Here though, Funky Justice use brass (and piano) as more than a novelty. It is the thing that drives their funk, that shakes their soul and moves a crowd's feet. They are musos doing what they love, making quality jazz, funk and soul music.

The Shoks
They carry off quick paced punk rock with verve and energy, especially on 'Suck My Venom', which could be a bastard pop experiment of both Stone based bands. Elsewhere, Ramones style guitars declare a menace behind their melodies (this menace even after discounting the fact they have boxer Mick Jennings on drums) and with a good following in Chorley, they come to Kings Electric to show that Wigan's nearest neighbours can plug in and rock out too. They're an amiable bunch and look to make each gig fun for everyone with their fine line in US tinged punk rock and roll. Lets just try to stay on the good side of Mr Jennings.
