FAO: star readerPosted 'anonymously' on the front page of SHM.
| Quote: | its amazin how much c**p the star shows about event isnt it dodgy pic in the paper and also stating there was 500 people at the gig funny i was around all day and at most saw 60.
least if ya goin to throw an event and say you got the best bands on it try an get people there an not lie about it and use dodgy dark photo to make look better than it was, and why show it on a sunday why not saturday when people are around in town an maybe then the so called 500 people might have been there
typical support the music scene not try fake it come on do better than use hype people see through that every time.

Should'nt really waste time replying to this kind of silliness as the author obviously does'nt feel strongly enough to put their name to it BUT there are a few inaccuracies that I would like to point out.
Firstly the comment that there were no more than 60 people at the event in town on Sunday afternoon is so ridiculously wide of the mark that it renders the whole post useless from the off. As I was'nt there at the end of the night I cannot comment on the numbers in attendance later on but I have spoken to enough people who where there to know this estimate to be false. Early on in the day the numbers were already into treble figures albeit not the figure quoted in the local papers. 500 seems like a silly number for the local papers/council to 'make up'. If they were really trying to impress then why not quadruple it?
Although I cannot comment on the reasons for holding the gig on a Sunday afternoon I can use common sense in thinking it may have something to do with the fact that holding it on a Saturday afternoon would conceivably have caused headaches security wise. A Sunday afternoon gig would ensure anybody that wanted to go and watch live bands in the town centre could do so whilst minimising the risk of unwanted troublemakers. Also a gig on a Saturday afternoon that would run into the revelry of a Saturday night in any major town or city would no doubt up the amount of potential incidents. Just a thought like.
The accusation that the event was badly advertised is also strange as for months now it has been heavily present on internet websites (both local and worldwide), throughout shops and businesses in and around St.Helens and surrounding areas with a huge amount of leaflets and posters, obviously local papers and in the week running up to the event it also appeared in the daily National press including quarter page ads and write ups. If the numbers were not up to scratch for you at least you can't fault them for trying.
To scold people for not 'supporting the music scene' seems churlish considering that your whole post seems hell bent on taking said scene down a peg or two.
And finally your swipe at St.Helens' 'favourite sons' (nice) seems odd as we have always been extremely happy and proud to have been a part and gotten so far in such a large and well publicised competition as The Road To V. Disappointed about not getting through to the final 4 bands maybe but bitter and twisted? Bit harsh don't you think? What are you basing this on exactly?
Anyways, thanks for the time you took to put the world to rights.

we was around early in the day about 2ish an didnt seem to many ppl but mates have said that t here was like 100 for end of day but people should support the scene not moan at it
who ever posted this either feels the local scene is against each other or just tryin to stir it all up
shame yu guys didnt go further in the v thing but well done (how did you find out about it btw for next year)
anyways think if the council or who ever put these events on should try do more on better day and maybe get more band on so the day is fuller
well said anyways guys silly 'star reader' should come to collective or somethin or meet the local bands an say it in public an see what he/she has to say for them selves but doubt that would ever happen if they not even prepared to log on to site to post instead do it a coward way
wow am actually agreein with loungs lol (this could be a start of a beautiful thing maybe am gettin soft in my age lol)

We didn't hear about it until it was almost too late. I reckon if you check bandwagon.co.uk early next year they'll get the details soon enough.

I stayed until the end and although there weren't perhaps 500 there were certainly a lot more than 50-60. Though I had drunk a fair few so who am I to judge?
All I'll say is that it was a great day of music and Spearhead just blew me away. So good on the council for doing something worthwhile and enjoyed by many.

I wouldn't actually be surprised if there were 500 people there at the end for Spearhead. It was indeed very busy, and I'd say there were triple the amount of people there that were there when Dreadzone played last year.
The event was extremely well advertised, I felt. I saw posters for it in venues as far as Bolton and Preston. Which helped, too. The advert for it on the Preston Music website managed to get a few people down by the looks of things.
I don't think the arts council have faked or overhyped anything to do with this event, and its utterly ridiculous that anyone could have the nerve to criticise. The arts council did an amazing job with the festival, and I think they deserve a lot of credit. It was incredible that they could get a band like Spearhead to play a free festival in St. Helens (especially given that Spearhead had played a gig at Brixton Academy the previous night for £20 a ticket).
Looking at Star Reader's recent reply on the front page, its clear he/she just wasn't really there. There were tons more than 50-60 people there by 7PM in the bar alone.

mike our bass player said it was good too
i was full flu so couldnt hang round all day
but think this just another persons thing to try make trouble or cause arguments between the scene
hope somethin more comes from the event and maybe more local bands get involved next time

A lot of people have said that, but I think with Eclectica the emphasis doesn't particularly need to be on local bands. There are quite a few other local events open to local bands, such as Newton Fest, St. Helens Show and the occassional citadel gig the arts council organises. With Eclectica, I think the emphasis is more people getting to see great bands from around the world that they wouldn't usually be able to see on their doorstep, let alone for free.
Plus, I think 2 out of 5 local bands is a fair ratio!

i've found something interesting out about our Mancunian correspondent - he/she isn't from Manchester at all, and would appear to work in Liverpool (Old Hall Street to be precise). seeing as we know this, and know who works in Old Hall Street, you might as well just admit it (or start questioning your workmates).

Haha, Will the detetcive! So, maybe I'm missing something obvious but who works in Old Hall St?

i know the answer to that, as does the forum member who works there. whether he/she chooses to reveal his/her identity is up to him/her.

I thought it was a decent day and well advertised. There were flyers every from Subway to Saints!
The thing that pissed me off the most was the Star only giving The Loungs and TTL ONE sentance between them (not even one each!) in the write up.
I know the even was about more than local bands, but its a local paper so you would have thought they would have had more than one sentance!
Bah humbug!

The Loungs almost got more sentences...
