Falling Down is on this week

Falling Down, the film, is on friday night on BBC1 at 11:30pm.

Personally I couldn't help but feel sorry for Michael Douglas' character in this when I first saw it. You really feel for him when he's encountering everyday idiots as he rampages through L.A. topped off by not having access to his daughter on her birthday and being sacked by his employer.

The film manages to find the right balance of combining dark humour and seriousness, ensuring the true message of the main character is shown throughout.

I remember when I first watched this and was amazed and taken aback at never having seen a film that spoke for the average joe so much in the way this did. Also it needs to be said that not once in this film does he hurt someone unless they have done something to him first - whether it's the golfers, fast food store boss, military shop owner and so on. In my opinion he's the most sane person in the film and is just trying to go about his way minding his own business.

Definitely worth giving a go...or taping if you're heading out.

The ending and the "cop's last day" subplot are fucking shite though.

no no no you've missed the point. The cops last day is integral to the whole thing. The films narrative is all to do with the comparisons of the two main characters. Douglas and the cop. Both having been under mounting emotional pressure for a number of years and both having dealt with it in radically different ways.

I love this film!

As I said in my previous post.

The Cop's story is shit.

And the ending is a fucking cop-out.

Bear's right in saying it is about how the pair of them cope with bureaucracy etc and to see him die at the end was awful as DTL said.

My favourite scene has to be when he's making his way over the golf course.
DTL

That's not quite what I said.

The most clichéd subplot in Hollywood.

Cop's last day Rolling Eyes

It's been in McBain fer christ sakes.
tony_p

You mean the writer Ed McBain? I have Cop Hater upstairs.
DTL

No I'm not...
