Every meeting!I've reacently showed an interest in being involved in the collective and would like to see it do well in the future, but recently i attended a meeting and have been keeping up to date with others that i can't attend due to work. There seems to be something that crops up every time and that is the issue of the over 18's only policy. I think that i SHOULD be over 18's only because there is a very large adult music audience in st helens which will be put off by under eighteens.
The Citadel started overload which is a dry bar night a couple of years ago and told the collective that due to licensing laws they would have to operate an over eighteens policy. I feel that the collective is hung up on this point and should concentrate on attracting adults throught its doors and use overload as a place where young tallent and a young audience can grow and eventually progress into the collective.

I'll have to disagree on that one I'm afraid. The over 18's policy totally conflicts what the collective originally set out to do years ago. It isn't much of a musicians collective if a large number of musicians in St. Helens aren't allowed to take part is it?
I used to attend the showcases when they were all ages and the mix of age groups was perfectly fine. Sure, a few younger members of the audiences might have been a bit hyper, but how often do they get to attend 'proper' local gigs? The adult members of the audience certainly had/have a lot more gigs they could attend locally. And its thanks to the younger 50%+ of the audience that the collective was at its most successful. Attendences at showcases these days are piss poor, and this is most likely due to the fact that when the age restrictions were implied, over half the bands couldn't take part in the collective any more, leaving us with the same lineups all the time and much less diversity.

I agree wih thomSorry to say this but when i first joined the collective 6 years ago every time we or any band who were around at that time played it was too full houses of all ages and it made the night more fun cos ppl were there for one reason the music.
since comin back to the collective year ago it has never felt the same an this is due to this pathetic age split
so what if you had to have dry bar least then the ppl will come or just regulate it more
i agree the way it is now is totally against the collective of yester year least then there were more bands in the collective who wanted to do shit and also came an supported every collective gig plus would open up more types of music an open the audience up to more variation
ok think this is most serious post ever done on here but hey fed up hearin ppl moan about somethin that can be sorted an help collective be more successful an not be ripped off by the citadel way it is now
