An Appeal to all Musicians | Quote: | Hi All
My name is Jayne, you can check out the myspace to get back to me (www.myspace.com/j4yne) alternatively miss.jayne.wood@gmail.com.
I work in the area of positive mental health promotion...
here are some stats...
1. 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in the course of a year
2. Your lifetime risk is 1 in 6
3. 3 young men kill themselves everyday in this country
4. Suicide is THE biggest cause of death among young men 15-35 in UK
5. 1 in 3 GP consultations is related to a mental health problem
6. Mental health problems cost the economy 30billion pounds a year
7. The cost to human live - immeasurable (6000 suicides each year)
8. Globally the WHO estimates that 1 million die by suicide each year
You get the idea, basically mental illness will affect one in four of us, but mental health affects every single one of us! Just like physical illness and physical health!
'The only way to separate the mind from the body is with an axe'
Chris Manning, CEO PRIMHE, (2006).
Additionally, people with experience of mental distress often encounter stigma and social exclusion, which is a barrier we passionately wish to overcome.
I am therefore appealing to local musicians, in and around the Merseyside area!
We have an excellent professional network in this area, a good team, and experience in coordinating large public events and we plan to utilise this to arrange an event.
This will be the first of its kind, innovative, exciting, powerful, meaningful and important!
I cant tell you what the size or location of the event will be as this project is in its infancy, but here is my vision...
Who knows of something that takes about 3-4 minutes to administer and within that time can produce any human emotion:
Elation
Depression
Humour
Happiness
Sadness
Fear
Regret
Passion
Excitement
Inspiration....
You can’t bottle it, you can’t inject it, you cant even get a prescription for it, but its completely legal and doesn’t cost a penny!
Its Music!
Alongside medical interventions; physical and emotional, social and spiritual interventions may be harnessed.
(Mental Health Foundation, 1997)
I want to bring together a group of talented local musicians who read this message and are inspired enough to want to be involved.
I see a funky, packed out venue, varied local talent, songs that mean something, songs that evoke emotions of all kinds, big screens portraying images that evoke positive emotions and wellbeing, maybe the odd fact displayed!
For more information about what we do see www.wellbeingproject.co.uk.
Wellbeing is about more than living ‘the good life’.
Is about having meaning in life, about fulfilling our potential
Feeling that our lives are worthwhile.
(Cummins et al, 2004)
Please get back to me with you thoughts, support, suggestions etc.
Look forward to hearing from you and working with you.
