we was around early in the day about 2ish an didnt seem to many ppl but mates have said that t here was like 100 for end of day but people should support the scene not moan at it

who ever posted this either feels the local scene is against each other or just tryin to stir it all up

shame yu guys didnt go further in the v thing but well done (how did you find out about it btw for next year)

anyways think if the council or who ever put these events on should try do more on better day and maybe get more band on so the day is fuller

well said anyways guys silly 'star reader' should come to collective or somethin or meet the local bands an say it in public an see what he/she has to say for them selves but doubt that would ever happen if they not even prepared to log on to site to post instead do it a coward way

We didn't hear about it until it was almost too late. I reckon if you check bandwagon.co.uk early next year they'll get the details soon enough.

I stayed until the end and although there weren't perhaps 500 there were certainly a lot more than 50-60. Though I had drunk a fair few so who am I to judge?

All I'll say is that it was a great day of music and Spearhead just blew me away. So good on the council for doing something worthwhile and enjoyed by many.

I wouldn't actually be surprised if there were 500 people there at the end for Spearhead. It was indeed very busy, and I'd say there were triple the amount of people there that were there when Dreadzone played last year.

The event was extremely well advertised, I felt. I saw posters for it in venues as far as Bolton and Preston. Which helped, too. The advert for it on the Preston Music website managed to get a few people down by the looks of things.

I don't think the arts council have faked or overhyped anything to do with this event, and its utterly ridiculous that anyone could have the nerve to criticise. The arts council did an amazing job with the festival, and I think they deserve a lot of credit. It was incredible that they could get a band like Spearhead to play a free festival in St. Helens (especially given that Spearhead had played a gig at Brixton Academy the previous night for £20 a ticket).

Looking at Star Reader's recent reply on the front page, its clear he/she just wasn't really there. There were tons more than 50-60 people there by 7PM in the bar alone.

mike our bass player said it was good too

i was full flu so couldnt hang round all day

but think this just another persons thing to try make trouble or cause arguments between the scene

hope somethin more comes from the event and maybe more local bands get involved next time

A lot of people have said that, but I think with Eclectica the emphasis doesn't particularly need to be on local bands. There are quite a few other local events open to local bands, such as Newton Fest, St. Helens Show and the occassional citadel gig the arts council organises. With Eclectica, I think the emphasis is more people getting to see great bands from around the world that they wouldn't usually be able to see on their doorstep, let alone for free.

Plus, I think 2 out of 5 local bands is a fair ratio!
